To me, make up brushes are one of those things in life where you get what you pay for. If you are able to invest in make up brushes and spend a little bit more on them, they'll last longer, wash better and your make up application will be noticeably improved - in my experience at least.
The majority of my make up brushes are mid-range price wise and I'm really happy with them. Of course there are brushes on the market that are much more pricey, but really, I can't justify spending £50+ on a make up brush, even if it would last me a lifetime. I'm probably guilty of owning one too many make up brushes, but there are an essential few that I use time and time again, and here's why.
Let's start off with one most of you will have heard of - the cult classic, Mac 217 blending brush. Is it worthy of it's cult status? Of course it is - it blends my eyeshadow like a dream. The tapered end means it is great for defining the crease of your eye and the ultra soft bristles make blending eyeshadows easy and seamless. A real staple!
It was only recently that I started to use the Real Techniques Stippling Brush for my tinted moisturiser rather than my cream blusher and it was definitely a wise move. It applies my favourite base evenly and blends it so well into my skin that I can barely feel that I'm wearing a base at all. I did however try to use it with a foundation and it was a struggle to blend it in - it definitely works best with a lighter base!
I had had the Sephora Crease Shadow Brush in my collection for a while and I hadn't found it great at applying my eyeshadow. Then I discovered that it's true calling wasn't eyeshadow at all - it was concealer. I use this to blend out my under eye concealer as well as any concealer on blemishes or spots. It makes my concealer look flawless and blends so well with my base without looking at all cakey. It has changed my concealer life!
My trusted Mac 168 brush has been contouring up my face for years now. I find that a lot of angled brushes are way to big for contouring and I like how this is the perfect size for the hollow of my cheek. The super soft bristles mean that you can create a really natural look and don't end up with a great streak of bronzer across your cheek!
Finally, in my opinion the most beautiful looking brush of them all, the Real Techniques Tapered Blush Brush - which I don't use for blush at all! I love to use this brush
What are your essential make up brushes? There's always room for more!
These brushes all look great! I love the look of the RT stippling brush. I'm loving their buffing brush at the moment for my base, it's so good xo
