If I had to choose between make up and skincare, I'd choose skincare every time. I'd rather spend more time looking after my skin so that I can spend less time applying make up. I'm yet to find the perfect skincare routine for me, but at the moment I have some products which I'm really enjoying using - so I thought I'd share them with you.
I mentioned a couple of months ago that I had picked up the Body Shop Camomile Cleansing Oil and I must say, I'm a convert to cleansing oils! It takes off all of my make up, including my eye make up so easily and leaves my skin feeling nourished and cleansed, but not stripped as foaming or gel cleansers tend to do. If you haven't tried a cleansing oil before but are looking to give one a go, this is a good option as it's not too pricey.
As it's winter, I like to use a moisturiser that's a little thicker and more hydrating than I would use in the summer months. I used the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream last winter and I really enjoyed using it, so as soon as the chill in the air arrived, out it came. I don't suffer from particularly dry skin so I can't say how hydrating it is in that case, but for skin that needs a little more hydration and TLC in the winter, this moisturiser is a good shout. It doesn't feel heavy or leave a sticky residue on the skin - it sinks in nicely. I use it before my make up on a morning and also after I have cleansed my skin at night.
When I feel like my moisturiser alone just isn't cutting it, I like to use the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. The fruity smell is heavenly and it leaves my skin glowing and hydrated. I apply a thin layer before bed to clean skin, dabbing off any excess to avoid a build up of product. If I feel like my skin needs a bit of a moisture boost, I always reach for this mask. I did a whole product review of this mask here, if you need a little more convincing!
Personally, I prefer my skin to look glowing and dewy rather than matte. If I know that I'm going out somewhere and I want to inject a little more radiance into my skin, I reach for the Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask. I must be honest, I'm really not keen on the strong orange-y smell of the product, however the marmalade-like texture I can deal with. If you manage to look past that - or can manage to not smell it! - this mask leaves your skin looking brighter and smoother. Plus it also claims to combat congestion and blemishes, win win!
To finish off my top 5 skincare products, I wanted to include a mask which I love when my skin is breaking out and a little unhappy. Whenever I have blemishes or spots, all I want to do is take off all of my make up and apply a thick generous layer of the Origins Clear Improvements Mask. The charcoal in the mask draws out impurities in the skin and helps to calm down angry spots. The mask does feel quite tight on your face as it dries, but to me that just feels like it's doing a great job of unclogging my pores!
What are your skincare heroes? I'd love to know
